A New Look for Peoria First Friday

First Friday came to Peoria in 2011 and has since grown to encompass many unique artists and events throughout the Peoria area. Lettering Works recently partnered with Central Illinois Artists Organization (CIAO) and the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) of Peoria to officially launch a new look for Peoria First Friday. Lettering Works has a long history of investing in Peoria’s art community, and this project is no exception.

THE BACKSTORY OF THE GRAPHIC

100DaysofPeoria - First Friday Illustration
First Friday Logo - by Lettering Works

The graphic isn’t actually that new. It was originally designed in 2017 by Chelsie Tamms as part of the 100 Days of Peoria project. Since then, it had been used by the Prairie Center of the Arts, ArtsPartners, and peoriafirstfriday.com to promote First Friday. When William Butler, the Executive Director of the CAC, approached Lettering Works about utilizing the logo, Chelsie went back and reworked the design from a hand-lettered graphic to a more refined logo.

THE PURPOSE OF A UNIFIED APPROACH

Peoriafirstfriday.com is a community-focused, volunteer initiative featuring contributions from Lizz Barnes, Jeff Freeman, Daniel Hart, Sarah Waldo, and Chelsie Tamms.

First Friday has grown beyond any one entity’s control. The purpose of the new First Friday graphic is to unify efforts across Peoria and celebrate the many wonderful happenings on each first Friday of the month. Anyone interested in participating and/or hosting their own event can utilize the graphic to help promote their individual contributions. It is not required to use this graphic, but rather it is an open resource for the community. A directory of participating locations can be found at peoriafirstfriday.com/space/*.

*Any participating locations are welcome to submit their information to peoriafirstfriday.com/space-submission/ to be added to the website’s directory.
