The Big Wins

  • Enrolled 24 founding members in the soon-to-launch lettering course. I am finally turning the popular in-person lettering workshop I used to teach into an online format. I spent the month refining the course outline and getting feedback from founding members on course content and name ideas.

  • Redesigned the Mission 2 Organize logo. Schae, the owner of the Chicago-based organizing company reached out about a refreshed logo to celebrate their twelfth year in business.

  • Celebrated five years with Daniel. We took a trip to Miami beach and celebrated our dating anniversary by taking a bike ride, spending time on the beach, exploring artsy Wynwood in Miami, and getting dinner and drinks.

General Updates + Accomplishments:

  • Ran the first four weeks of the third cohort of Self-Made Artist Academy. I also hosted a virtual Zoom call to give current and past students an opportunity to connect and share wins and struggles around owning an arts business.

  • Worked on some kidney-centric designs in preparation for National Kidney Month. Specifically, I designed a new sticker and booth backdrop for a pharmaceutical company attending a kidney conference.

  • Enjoyed Chicago (between trips to Florida). Highlights included attending Hairspray, catching up with friends at Sunnyside Chats, seeing an Improv Brunch show at Second City and a concert at Sleeping Village. We enjoyed food from favorite spots like Longman & Eagle, Lula Cafe, Gretel, and Lardon as well as tried new places like Tribecca’s Sandwich Shop (new in Avondale), Farm Bar, and Las Islas Marias.

  • Attended my first Museum Store Association - Midwest Chapter Meeting. I have been enjoying getting more involved with the museum community and updated my MSA Marketplace shop (as well as Faire) for wholesale.

  • Celebrated a friend’s birthday with a weekend trip to Tampa. Highlights of the trip with my high school yearbook buddies included spending time on the beach, going out, find an ice cream flavor I remembered from a childhood trip to Florida, stumbling upon a Mardi Gras Festival in Dunedin, and walking along multiple riverfronts.

  • Presented to the AMIDST Creatives group about my entrepreneurial journey. Additionally, I partnered with them to offer a SMAA scholarship to one of their creatives. My work will be featured in their spring magazine and we will be collaborating on hosting another Friendly Artist Hangout in March.

  • Learned that Daniel’s grandma passed away. Grandma Goddard was so welcoming to me and always made and sent cute handmade birthday cards. She will be missed by many and remembered for her kind heart and craftiness.

February was filled with highs and lows. I was glad that I was able to escape the cold and soak up some sun in Florida as well as make some great progress on the new lettering course.

In March, I am most looking forward to Radish Kitchen’s grand opening in Peoria, being a panelist on the Women in Design Breakfast (it’s virtual and free to attend), and continuing to raise awareness for kidney disease.
