Lettering Works Business Journal - October in Review

Business Journal: a place to celebrate wins & reflect - 46th Edition

October’s highlights included turning thirty, working on a variety of passion projects and client work, attending the MSA Midwest Conference in Indianapolis, and receiving a $5,000 grant.

The Big Wins

  • Celebrated turning 30! One highlight of some celebrations was taking photos with some friends and family.

  • Created a passion project around rebranding Ms. Jetsetter. This was fueled by my love of travel, branding, and woman-owned businesses! See the full project here.

  • Attended the MSA Midwest Conference in Indianapolis. Highlights included visiting four museums, sharing my Midwest Nice stickers as a tote bag sponsor, learning and making new friends, and getting a reorder from the Milwaukee Art Museum.

General Updates + Accomplishments:

  • Received $5,000 in grant funding from the B2B Artist Grant. The Back to Business (B2B) grant program provides recovery grants for businesses in the hardest-hit industries.

  • Focused on health maintenance tasks including getting blood work done, going to the dentist, getting a haircut, and going to my annual nephrologist appointment.

  • Continued to work on all of the client projects. From custom buttons for the Field Museum to wrapping up some branding and custom lettering projects, I got to focus a lot of my time this month on my favorite types of work!

  • Got a new laptop. I couldn’t be more excited for this major upgrade (and to leave behind my faulty keyboard and dying computer battery).

  • Restocked some favorite gift shops including Garfield Park Conservatory, Good Things Vending, and Hoypoloi Gallery (at O’Hare Airport), among others.

  • Enjoyed the beginning of fall in Chicago. From celebrating our friends Alexis & Madison at their wedding in Chicago to seeing the Pre-Broadway Musical A Wonderful World to catching the last few Famers Markets of the season in Logan Square to making chili and soups, we enjoyed a cozy transition into fall.

October flew by with a good mix of personal and business events. I really enjoyed leaning into my museum work as well as prepping for vacation.

In November, I am most looking forward to exploring Paris and Amsterdam with Daniel while unplugging from work. Upon returning from our two-week vacation, I am looking forward to getting some new projects lined up and continuing to make time for some fun personal projects that have been on my mind for a while.

Thank you for being here, for supporting me, and for following along with my entrepreneurial journey.
