BUSINESS JOURNAL: A PLACE TO CELEBRATE WINS & REFLECT - 59TH EDITION

November’s highlights included sharing the development of my new neon signs, launching an update pizza sticker, seeing my products in T5 of O’Hare airport for the first time, launching a new passion project around favicons, and spending time with my family in Colorado.

The Big Wins

  1. Shared my development of neon signs! I created a mini catalog and started to connect with interested parties. I’m offering a special price for the first person or organization to order each of the available designs. Find them on my shop here.

  2. Launched an updated Chicago Pizza sticker and postcard (after lots of positive feedback and votes on LinkedIn for thicker lettering). Get one here (wholesale available here).

  3. Saw my products at Blvd&Branch in O’Hare’s Terminal 5 for the first time. Be sure to look for Lettering Works products at Hoypoloi Gallery, the Field Museum, and Blvd&Branch when traveling through Chicago ORD next.

General Updates + Accomplishments:

  • Had a lovely consulting session with Laura of After Party Celebration Preservation in exchange for our pressed and dried wedding flowers. This was completed as part of my Artist Trade Program that accepts trade proposals on a rolling basis. Apply for an artist trade here.

  • Launched my latest mini passion project: The Favicon Fix, which is all about educating website owners on the power of the small-but-might favicon. I also created two brands for fun that will be part of an upcoming passion project. Read the blog post here.

  • Put together a blog post answering ten questions from a student at Columbia College. Read it here if you are considering starting your own business or working as a freelancer.

  • Recorded some new product videos and added them alongside more photos to my Faire listings. I’ve been working on optimizing my presence on Faire since wholesale has been such a large part of my business the past few years. Shop Faire Direct here (and help me save on commission fees.)

  • Celebrated 16 years post spinal fusion surgery that corrected my severe scoliosis. I also celebrated six months married to Daniel by getting nearly all of our thank-you’s sent.

  • Stocked up on new promotional cards and postcards, including the new Chicago Style Hot Dog and Deep Dish Pizza designs. I’ve enjoyed keeping up my tradition of gifting a little piece of my art at networking events in lieu of business cards. If you’d like one, let me know!

  • Visited family outside of Denver, Colorado and St. Louis, Missouri. Highlights of our week-long trip to Colorado included touring a tea factory, a hike at the Flatirons, game nights, and an early Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Created a t-shirt design for the Design Museum of Chicago after being selected to participate in their membership t-shirt open call. I also shared my information with Typism for a future feature, since a piece of my work was selected for inclusion in their Typism 10 book.

  • Celebrated Small Business Saturday by offering a free, mini brand audit with any 1:1 consulting session booked. Schedule your hour-long session here. These sessions are your chance to rent my brain and tap into my years of creative + entrepreneurial experience. In an effort to eliminate false urgency, this offer will be available until 12/8/24.

November was filled with family time as we got to see both my immediate family and Daniel’s. I was able to focus a bit on personal projects and some business maintenance tasks.

In December, I’m most excited to continue focusing on some personal projects, work on generating some new business for the remainder of the year and next year, as well as some typical end-of-the-year business wrap up tasks. Reach out if you’d like to work together, I am continuing to prioritize new branding and logo projects as well as custom merchandise and wholesale. I also have a few spots open as part of my Artist Trade Program.

Thank you for being here, for supporting me, and for following along with my entrepreneurial journey.

PS - Have a project you’d like to chat about? Send me the details now to ensure your project gets on my calendar in 2024 or 2025. Bring on all the logos, branded merchandise, + brand identity projects… let’s make some beautiful + impactful things together.
