Get to know Mel McSherry the energetic and supportive host behind More Than Just Podcast.

Tell me a little about yourself.

My name is Mel McSherry, my pronouns are she/they. I am an International Business and Life Guide, speaker, author, podcast host and mom (among other things). My passion is to help people, predominantly women and femme-identified entrepreneurs, step away from everything they think they need to do to create what they want and work/live in alignment with their internal design so they can be profitable mentally, emotionally and financially every day as they bring what they want into fruition.

What is your background (education, previous jobs and/or experiences) that led you to where you are today?

I have been an entrepreneur since 2010, starting in the fitness industry. I was a certified personal trainer and I did in-home trainings, outdoor bootcamps, and bridal bootcamps. When my son was born in 2011, and my husband at the time was traveling a lot, I found it was just too difficult to travel to my clients. I took a step to the side (I don't believe in steps back), put a pin in my business and got a job with my father’s company doing remote medical billing. Was it my passion? Absolutely not, but it gave me the financial space to re-examine what I wanted. This inevitably led me to moving my fitness business to an online platform and joining up with a network marketing company as a health and wellness coach. Honestly, I thought fitness was going to be what I did for the rest of my life. But what ended up happening is this company introduced me to personal development, leadership and what it’s like to help others build their businesses, which lead me to leave the fitness industry in 2016. I received my coaching certification and launched my coaching business in 2017.

Originally my focus was to work with others in network marketing to grow their businesses, that then evolved into women entrepreneurs and helping them prioritize their time, their profit avenues and themselves correctly. Now my work has been amplified by utilizing a tool called Human Design that shows you who you are at a foundational level and how you are designed to be, to work, to process and to make the best decisions.

What led you to start More Than Just Podcast?

I was inspired to create this space by conversations I have had with people, as well as with myself, who feel like they no longer feel seen and/or heard because they have been narrowed down into a certain identity. Whether that is to "niche" down as a business owner or to make themselves smaller to be more comfortable in a crowd. Especially if we are entrepreneurs, we tend to only share the same stories that are angled towards our services, we don't often (if ever) get to share the real stories that have shaped us, influenced us and helped create what we have and are now.

What do you think is most interesting or unique about the guests you have on?

The stories I hear! Even from people I have known for years, because most started from a "professional" connection I only heard certain ones or ones that are the most current.

What are some of your short and long term goals?

I think they are one in the same - to have a platform where humans can share their stories, authentically connect with one another, and learn from each other so, as a collective, we can truly create the change we desire and deserve.

What is one or two episode(s) you are most excited about sharing? What stood out to you about it?

I can only pick two??!! I am truly excited to share all of them! Each one has something that stood out to me - especially from those who are from a different background, culture, or race from myself.

How would you describe the process of working with Lettering Works to establish your branding? What did you enjoy most?

Seamless, easy, amazing, fantastic, all the things! I so appreciated how communicative and accommodating Chelsie is.

What value have you received from your logo so far?

The initial response has been AMAZING! Getting new following on social media every day, great engagements on our posts and huge excited for our first episode.

Why do you think podcast hosts (or small businesses in general) should invest in branding?

Because we can't do it all, nor should we. Having an outside, creative brain take all of our ideas and intentions and make them into something WAY better than anything we thought of is beyond priceless.
